Electives, Minors & Certificates

Electives

Electives are classified into four groups for MSE undergraduate students:

  1. Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS)
  2. Complementary Studies (CS)
  3. Technical Electives
  4. Free Electives

Please consult MSE program requirements in the Academic Calendar to see which electives you need to take to fulfill your degree requirements.

If you are planning to take an Arts & Science course to fulfill your elective requirements, please read the Guide to Taking Arts & Science Courses.

When in doubt about your choice of HSS/CS course, please check with the Office of the Registrar’s website or with Ms. Sabrin Mohamed, MSE Undergraduate Advisor in WB 140.

Please note: If you will be working out of town for the summer and you wish to take your HSS/CS at another university while you are away, you may do so with prior permission. However, please keep in mind that there are consequences for reducing your course load in the Fall or Winter terms. Speak to Ms. Sabrin Mohamed in the MSE Main Office (WB 140) before you do this.

Minors & Certificates

A number of engineering minors and certificates are available to students across the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. Please visit the Cross-Disciplinary Programs Office website for more information.

The new Certificate in Forensic Engineering will be offered to students as of September 2017.
